The Gialli influenced the slasher but then in turn the slasher influenced the gialli [or what was left of it] by the late 70's/early 80's. "The New York Ripper" and "A Blade in the Dark"
are two examples of the latter version happening.

I haven't seen "Happy Birtheday to Me" in awhile but I don't recall it having a "gialli" influence...unless you're referring to that insane "plot twist" at the end.

The 3 american "slasher" films that could be considered "giallo's"
are "Alice, Sweet Alice" "Eyes of Laura Mars" & Dressed to Kill"

1st I dropping the Lord Butt Trumpet name as it is not really appropiate here.

Anyway. This is really good list. I am a huge fan of Italian Horror and have seen all of these.

My favorite is Fulci’s “Don’t Torture a Duckling” with Argento’s “Tenebrae” and Bava’s “Blood and Black Lace” being strong contenders for the throne.

Worth mentioning [while being a rather average giallo] is Sergio Pastore’s "7 Scialli di Seta Gialla" UNCUT on Dagored Films DVD as "Crimes of the Black Cat". If nothing else it has THE most violent blood splattering shower slashing I have ever seen. And I have seen a lot?

Slasher films that were obviously influenced by giallo are Night School and Happy Birthday to Me. That's probably why they're among the more stylish and well made.

Slasher fans who have yet to delve into giallo films are in for a treat. There are so many of these movies available on DVD and many of them simply astonish with their stylish direction and sordid sex and violence. If you think you've seen every American slasher and are looking for a new fix the giallo will keep you occupied for a long time.

I think Plumage is plagued by weak performances and meanders a little to much, never really building momentum. But like I said, it's a pretty movie. And for what it's worth, I like the clue incorporated in a wrongly interpreted memory.

Good list.

I always found The Bird with the Crystal Plumage to be a handsome, stylish but ultimately rather weak film. I definitely prefer The Cat o'Nine Tails.

I'd also scratch The Black Belly of the Tarantula in favour of The Fifth Cord or What Have You Done to Solange?
