Alternative Ending from Friday the 13th The Final Chapter

Shock Till You Drop have posted a brief clip of the original ending to Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter which will be included on the upcoming Deluxe Edition DVD. Paramount sent the snippet to the site as a teaser for the new release, which will be released on region 1 on June 16. The clip is set the morning after Jason’s gruesome demise and sees survivors Tommy (Corey Feldman) and Trish Jarvis (Kimberly Beck) asleep on the couch, until the sound of approaching sirens wakes them up (although the footage contains no audio).

The DVD boasts a selection of extras including two commentaries (the most promising involving director Joseph Zito, screenwriter Barney Cohen and editor Joel Goodman), several featurettes (including Jason’s Unlucky Day: 25 Years After Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter, Lost Tales from Camp Blood Part IV and The Crystal Lake Massacres Revisited Part I) and the aforementioned ‘Lost Ending.’ Despite hardly living up to the anticipation, it is still interesting to see additional footage, especially on what was arguably the best instalment of the series.

  1. I just jizzed in my pants.

Seriously, whoever says Paramount doesn’t care about Friday fans after this are complete idiots! This is fantastic. Who would have thought? And it’s nice to know Part VIII – Jaosn Takes Manhattan (as bad as it is) will have all of its uncut scenes as features too. :)

  2. OMG! SO COOL! im so excited to see the rest. but no sound :( its still cool!

  3. that was terrible

  4. It is always interesting to see what was cut out of a movie, particularly one you’re so familiar with. Hope the featurettes are entertaining.

  5. It’s a little anti-climactic, which is probably why it was cut. But it’s cool to finally see it, I’m glad they put effort into getting it on a special edition DVD. Why call anything “Deluxe” or “Special” if you can’t squeeze all the content you can onto it?

It fills in a little of the moments between Tommy hacking @ Jason & Trisha in the hospital bed, which feels a little clunky, but respects the “scare jump, victim w/ authorities, shot of something relevant” ending style set up by the original. But I don’t think adding this clip would make the existing ending climactic in any way.

  6. I agree, this clip would have added nothing to the finished cut but it’s interesting to see the different ideas they considered. I welcome as many deleted scenes and extras that they are willing to offer.

  7. im not sure but you guys know that this is only a little part of the alternate ending right?
the rest will be shown on the dvd.
it just sounds to me like you guys think that.

  8. We can only comment on the section we have seen.

  9. To elaborate on what charles said, this wasn’t the whole ending. The rest is *spoilers….

Trish finding Mrs. Jarvis in the bath and Jason coming up behind her. Doesn’t sound very anti-climactic, imo.

  10. I always wondered what happened to the mom. It’s obvious she dies, but I was kind of glad it didn’t show it because I liked her character a lot.
