Butcher Knives and Body Counts

Keep an eye on bookshelves this fall for the latest word on our beloved slashers. The book is called Butcher Knives and Body Counts and will feature dozens of essays on our favorite genre. Edited by Vince Liaguno (author of the The Literary Six) for Dark Scribe Press, there will also be two Retro Slashers writers featured. Keep an eye out for my article (written under my real name Amanda Reyes) and Ross Horsley!

Also contributing are Harley Jane Kozak (House on Sorority Row) and Tony Timpone, ex-Fango editor to name just two. You can read an interview with Vince at Fangoria, or check out the Butcher Knives and Body Counts blog for all the deets. And of course, you can count on Retro Slashers to keep you appraised of the ongoing info as it comes out!

  1. I’m pleased they’re covering Doctor Phibes. It fits the the bill as a proto-slashers film in lots of ways. Deformed killer, strange motive and inventive deaths. Phibes is also where Seven’s John Doe borrows his central idea of biblical deaths from. Theatre of Blood fits too.
Though, I’m not keen on them, it’s good that they’re looking at the 90s stuff.

  2. Sounds awesome, I’ll definitely be checking it out. And congrats, Amanda!

  3. I can’t wait to read this. I’ll be buying it as soon as it comes out. I’m excited for you, Amanda and Ross.
