Don't Mess with Texas (or Los Angeles)!

Some things I learned in Texas:

Texas Grub = Awesomeness
Austinites are good people
You can drink beer in the theaters

Well, you can at the Alamo Drafthouse Cinema anyway. And check it: Every Thursday this month, they have something called Terror Thursdays

Tonight’s flick: The Boogens

Oh. My. God.

I’m not sure this is a regular thing or if it’s only for the month of Halloween, but do check out their Website

Also, here in Los Angeles The New Beverly Cinema is having a cool fundraiser this weekend and check out the movies they are playing this Saturday, the 18th:

House on Sorority Row
Creepers (aka Phenomena – this is the US Theatrical Cut)
Zombi
The Power
… and more!!!

And the rest of the month looks awesome too. Check out their schedule.

They don’t ‘officially’ allow you to drink at this theater, but they do actually encourage you bring your own forty (and have even raffled them off from time to time).

Drunks who love horror. What more could you ask for?

  1. Aw, damn – I wish I had cool stuff like this going on in my area. I’d kill to see Phenomena in a crowded theater.

Sounds like a lot of fun!

  2. New Beverly Cinema and the Silent Theater in LA

  3. I have to admit, I’m not a big fan of the Silent Movie theater. I am open to going again, but I don’t like the crowd nearly as much as I like the one at the New Beverly. It just feels so much more like an authentic grindhouse.

We also have the Aero and the Egyptian among a few other neat places to see old movies that need to be viewed in the theater! We’re so lucky Irving!

  4. Sadly no one around me does anything like that. There’s a one night/all night horror movie marathon the week of Halloween, but they only do that to support Dr. Creep:)

  5. i know huh!! But i did get to meet Clint Howard at the Silent Theater at a screening of Evilspeak!!!

  6. I’m so jealous! I wanted to go to that screening and then just forgot! I need an organizer!

I met Clint Howard actually at a House of the Dead signing at Dark Delicacies. I told him that my friend was one of his biggest fans and he actually asked for my address and sent me some autographed pix from some of his movies to give to her. Needless to say, she had an awesome birthday. I got a soft spot for Clint. Nice guy.

  7. Nice story, Amanda. I’m glad Clint turned out to be a nice fella.

  8. Creepers – Good God, I still have my boyhood crush on Jennifer Connelly!
