Far from the best, but leagues better than Jason Goes to Hell … and it features even less of Jason than that piece of dreck! This one still has all the ingredients of an entertaining slasher flick IMO.

It grows on you more and more as the years go by. No, I don’t re-visit it as often as some of the others, but it does have that great “early” F13 feel and vibe to it.

Going through all the Friday movies, one a night, and just got to this one. I don’t care what people say, this is excellent sleaze and far superior to the remake. Lots of fun!

I really enjoyed this movie. Part 2 and The final chapter are by far my favourites but this was definately a good entry in the series.

I really appreciated the final twist of the movie,but i found the rest of it pretty boring and confused,apart from a few scenes,when i watched it some years ago during my quest to see all the friday the 13th movies.
However,it is still an interesting addiction and,like you rightfully say,one of the most violent movie of the whole Friday the 13th franchise.
I’ll try to watch the other movies of this director,is the unseen good?

The problem with the first movie was it doesn’t work as a whodunnit because when the killer is finally revealed at the end it is a character that we had not seen before, so the revelation is pretty irrelevant. Unfortunately, with A New Beginning the red herrings are too obvious as the camera constantly gives us close ups of Roy’s evil stare.

A New Beginning is certainly a damn fine slasher and I urge everyone to seek out Savage Streets as well. I watched the original 35mm at a festival last year (complete with original eighties trailers for films like C.H.U.D.) and it was a blast!

Many are shocked to discover this is actually my favorite FRIDAY THE 13TH! I loved everything about it, mostly that it brought back the mystery element from the first film, but played it far better than that one (the original had little in the way of red herrings, for example).

I gotta agree – Part V is a total blast and the revelation of the imposter Jason shouldn’t detract from the fun to be had. Steinmann also directed the excellent 80′s horror The Unseen which features a muddy, rain-soaked climax that is very evocative of this film.

The Final Chapter is an awesome movie, but I do have a soft spot for this one as well. I wasn’t too keen on it as a child but over the years it’s really grown on me. At least the sleaze in this one seemed more at home than in the remake. Definitely one of the most underrated of the series.
