Great review! The original Halloween is one of favorite films ever. The remake has a semi-promising opening and a couple of good jolts, but it goes on forever and becomes routine, and the characters are either uninteresting or intensely despicable.

Halloween original = awesome. Perfectly done and forever imitated. Halloween remake = um, okay I guess but Michael Myers looks like a WWF wrestler and isn't scary because of it. I guess he was on a 3500 calorie a day diet (w/ steroids) and got that big from making masks all day for all those years.

Could not agree with you more about this review Christian. Not only is Halloween the finest horror film ever made but one of the finest movies ever made. Carpenter was truly brilliant with this film and established him as one of the finest directors in horror. Agreed about the latter part of his career. He had a few decent films like "Vampires" but disappointing ones like "Village Of The Damned" and the atrocious "Ghosts Of Mars".

I am eager to see what he comes up with in his new film and he long long overdue to direct another film. I would hate for his swan song film to be "Ghosts Of Mars". I am eager and confident that he will come back strong. Nevertheless though Halloween will always shine as one of the greats like "Psycho and The Exorcist" now and forever.

P.J. Soles and Nancy Loomis aren't exactly the strongest supporting actresses, and I always wondered how that relatively short knife was able to hold Lynda's boyfriend in place...

...but the finale holds up amazingly well! For many slasher fans, gore is the most important factor, but for me, it's that final game of cat and mouse, and Halloween is THE example to follow. The suspense still grips me from the moment Michael's face fades into view behind Laurie, and I still get the chills when the movie closes with Michael's breathing over a succession of the places Michael has visited on the night he came home. And Donald Pleasence and Jamie Lee Curtis handle the material gloriously!
