Lost Slasher: All-American Massacre

While the past few years have been ripe with hoopla over the remade series of The Texas Chainsaw Massacre, memories seem spotty about a shot continuation of the original series of films, a project called All-American Massacre. William Hooper (yes, son of Tobe) planned the short film to showcase his directing abilities, give Bill Mosely (whose Chop-Top character in TCM2 was incredibly popular both with fans and the actor himself) a reprise of the role, and pay homage to his fathers films.

In 2000, the cast and crew gathered and shot it on digital. The story was set 13 years after the events of Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 and had Robert "Chop-Top" Sawyer (here called Bloody Bobby for obvious legal reasons) long incarcerated in jail (and a more exposed headplate!), accepting an interview with a tabloid tv show which prompts flashbacks to Chop-Top's early murdering career (the younger Chop-Top was played by Todd Bates). The story deepened the character, shed alot of gore, and at one point some familiar family members and a buzzing chainsaw appear...

Sound enticing enough? As the years rolled on, fewer and fewer bits of info appeared, and seemingly no progress made as to distribution. It appears the whole thing was completed, the band Buckethead even contributed music for it, but a quickly yanked goodbye on the films' now dead website www.allamericanmassacre.com in January 2006 put a seemingly definitive cold end to the years-long wait but refused to cite the many various reasons. One could suspect those reasons were legal, as it was an unofficial project, but of course more official then any other at least in the moral sense, what with the involvement of Hooper & Mosely.

While this lost sequel will most probably be sitting in someone's desk drawer forever while more expensive, less creative TCM projects are greenlit, there is a flickering light at the end of the tunnel. Recently some saintly individual uploaded both the teaser trailer - which only gives a vague outline of what the short film's about - and the full trailer - which encapsulates the whole story and is simply electrifying. Check 'em out!
