Scream and Scream Again: History of the Slasher Film

I love the internets. You get to see things you ordinarily just wouldn’t be exposed to. Such as, this BBC documentary on the US slasher film. They have some pretty high profile interviewees, and take some alternative angles on some of the most well-known titles in the subgenre. Here’s part one on the embed above, follow your nose to find the rest – “the man” is ever present.

  1. Cool stuff. That reviewer guys is just great, can’t remember his name, but he’s hosted a bunch of great features, including ones on The Exorcist, the French Connection, and Halloween.

  2. I actually put all 5 parts onto a VCD and watched it last night. Very cool. the whole thing clocks in at a little over 48 minutes. While it was informative, I wish they could have included more slashers films instead of the mainstream ones like Friday The 13th and A Nightmare On Elm Street.

  3. Does anyone still have these videos (saved on your computer, perhaps)? The vidoes aren’t available on YouTube anymore.

    Thanks in advance,

  4. I remember watching this when it was on TV. I believe it was Mrk kermode who presented it. He wrote a good article on slasher films for Sight & Sound a few years later. I remember referencing this in my dissertation. Wow, it must have been around 2000 it was screened.
