I have no interest in this pointless remake and judging by its absymal 5.27 million opening weekend the teenage girls weren’t to exited either about it either.
Yeah, I was surprised it performed so horribly! 5.27M is BAD!…Black X-mas even did better, and we all know how much that bombed.
But I digress..I actually wanted to see this one, if only because they changed the name from the original.
I want to see it for that badass weapon the killer has!
im hoping to see this one soon, but ill prolly wait for the blu ray or dvd. looks like a good movie though, i have been trying to get ahold of the original and cant seem to find it.
After an iffy start, I thought this one rattled into high-gear pretty quickly, with good kills, some smart laughs and a few likeable characters. It should’ve done better than Black Xmas really.
its like black Christmas
im seeing it Wednesday i cant wait
(and i ment to say it looks like black christmas a little)
This is coming from a forgiving fan who loved this year’s My Bloody Valentine, Friday the 13th and Halloween II. Sorority Row was a major disappointment, with the most overused shaky cam ever, an unsatisfying and unconvincing killer reveal, and the most annoying cast of bitches to be committed to celluloid. I could have at least enjoyed their deaths, but the kills (with the exception of one boyfriend) are underwhelming. I should mention the camera is out of focus as much as it shakes. Nearly every scene features out of focus close-ups of the cast. The filmmakers might consider it style, but I found it an instant recipe for a headache.
No wonder this film didn’t do well, seems even the slasher fans didn’t go out to support it.
ITS THE SAME PREMISE AS I KNOW WHAT YOU DID LAST SUMMER MORE THEN IT IS A REMAKE OF HOUSE ON SORORITY ROW, THE ACTORS WERE DULL, CARRIE FISHER WAS BAD ASS BUT , THIS WAS JUST AN OK SLASHER THE PLOT TWIST WAS REALLY STUPID I MEAN REALLY STUPID THERE WERE 2 GREAT KILLS THE REST SUCKED, NOT A VERY GOOD MOVIE BUT, ITS GOOD IN THE SENSE THAT SLASHERS ARE STILL ALIVE. ALTHOUGH MOST STRAIGHT TO DVD RELEASES IVE SEEN LOIKE LAID TO REST ECT WERE WAY BETTER, SORRY BOUT CAPS MY KEYBOARDS BROKEN
The film was a bit of a let down to die hard slasher fans. The film was far too similar to “I Know What You Did Last Summer” and the story line was extremely weak. Carrie Fisher was the highlight of the film, but the rest of the movie tanked. It took far too long to get to the murders and they were just too random with the killer happening to be at the right time at the right place to inflict some carnage. I was really looking forward to this one and was let down. I myself did not find the cast all that attractive either. Black Christmas (remake) had a much better looking cast if not too good looking which was a little hard to believe. Avoid this one folks sorry. Halloween 2 – Blech, Sorority Row – Boring. The redo of The Stepfather looks promising though!
I enjoyed it, despite it being slow in some parts. Thought it had pretty suspenseful scenes, although the killer was a little predictable. If you wanna watch a movie and just have fun with it, then this is for you…otherwise, it’s probably not considering everyone I went with didn’t like it. I kinda figured they were probably trying too hard with all the TV spots and stuff. I didn’t have a good feeling about its opening weekend. I still like the original a lot more, of course, but this would make a nice little double feature with the BLACK CHRISTMAS remake (which I HATED at first and now love).
Ha! I LOVED it! It was soooo freakin’ funny! You really can’t take this one seriously, and you kind of have to just enjoy it for what it is. The girls were REALLY likable once you gave them a chance (each girl was a cliche of each stereotype you would expect to see in a film like this), the jokes were spot on (did anyone catch the “she looks HORRIBLE” comment? Or the hilarious bit when Ellie(?) gets that text message that no one wants her to see?) The deaths were fun and unpredictable. I especially thought the one involving the beer bottle was particularly brutal. I thought this was JUST AS GOOD if not even slightly better than the original “House on Sorority Row”. I noticed in the opening credits it said based on the screenplay “Seven Sisters”. Isn’t that the ORIGINAL screenplay which was adapted ALSO for the original “House on Sorority Row”? So not really a remake, more of a different adaption of the same story. I thought it was a wild, fun, gory and even suspenseful slasher film, and it proved you can still be hardcore and original. I must add I DID see it twice, it was even funnier (as I caught a lot more) the second time. It reminds me of “Club Dread”: really, REALLY dry humor that gets better with each viewing. I recommend this to ANY 80’s slasher fan. It had the right blend of everything, and probably one of the best remakes in the last couple years. Just my two cents.
Loved the original film, i bet the new Hollywood remake will lose its charm in 2009 i prefer vintage horror best .
The movie was just plain awful!.
I want my money back!.
the killers reason for all the murders was stupid.
then the unexplained reason for the guy who was being played the prank on to finish off the girl who was already supposely dead in the begining of the movie was a disapointment.
another dumb remake!
House on sororirty row was and always will be the better!
Retro slashers removed my post because? because i disagreed and thought the movie was awful? i thought this was a cool site and all post were welcomed! no profanity was used either so im questioning it!
I enjoyed it !!! It wasn’t a spectacular film…but I enjoyed it none the less !!!! The weapon used was so originally awesome IMO…very cool !!! I would definitely recommend this movie to anyone who likes Scream,Valentine or I Know What You Did Last Summer !!! Never seen the original
I haven’t seen this film, and given Australia’s disinterest in horror at the moment, it’ll be a while before I can rent the DVD, but I did make a point of seeing the trailer, and it turns out my only thought upon viewing it was
Wait a sec while I get the hang of this interweb thingie…. damn verification codes!!
I haven’t seen this film, and given Australia’s disinterest in horror at the moment, it’ll be a while before I can rent the DVD, but I did make a point of seeing the trailer, and it turns out my only thought upon viewing it was “Surely it’s too soon to be remaking “I Know What You Did Last Summer”?”. It’ll be interesting to see if the film bears that thought out.
