I think some people are missing the point when they say these movies are grainy, are too dark, or look “cheap.” That is part of the beauty of watching low budget horror movies on VHS. They were never meant to look pristine. That is part of their charm. I never remember complaining about the VHS tapes I used to rent. I was just happy to watch these movies.

Blu-Ray will never take over DVD, it’s just an alternative to some people. DVD revolutionised home video so much that it won’t just disappear. I know so many people who have said Blu-Ray is nothing special so I don’t feel the need to upgrade. VHS was around twenty years before it became obsolete, I don’t think we need to be in a rush to replace DVD just yet. They just need to sort out that ‘transition between layers may trigger a slight pause’ crap as it always happens halfway through a scene.

I so miss the days of VHS. So many films have gotten lost in time, and the DVD format is already changing to Blu-Ray. So many great titles were never released on DVD. Some movies never got VHS. So I have been collecting DVD and VHS formats, and I no longer wait for something to come to DVD. I don’t care about the picture quality at all anymore.

Just bought “The Island” with Michael Caine on VHS/ The tape is like 27 years old.

DVD is what every horror needed (decent quality) but I will always have a soft spot for those old VHS Imanaged to buy from the locala video shop when I was too young to purchase them (the age restriction was 18 here). Ahh, the memories…

haha This reminds me so much of me. Although I tend to get nostalgic and prefer watching VHS over DVD with certain movies. One of the local video stores here was doing away with their VHS, so I managed to get Terror At Tenkiller, The Newlydeads, The Curse and Slaughterhouse Rock for a buck each.
