The Last House on the Left DVD Details

The original was certainly a forerunner to the slasher film and there is no denying that the recent remake of Wes Craven’s The Last House on the Left owed more of a debt to the earlier eighties teens-in-peril pics than the unpleasant exploitation flick which it takes its name from.

Directed by newcomer Dennis Iliadis and starring Tony Goldwyn, Sara Paxton and Garret Dillahunt (in the infamous role of psycho rapist Krug), Last House made $14m during its US opening weekend, though it would fair a little worst with critics.

DVD details have just been announced by Universal, which plan to release both the theatrical and an uncut version (eith an additional four minutes of footage) on August 18. Special features will include a featurette and deleted scenes, though a commentary seems to be absent.

  1. Am I the only one who enjoyed the remake more than the original?

  2. I heard this remake was good. I love the original, but I can easily see it being matched. Kind of…I mean, to shock is a bit hard compared to ’72, but still…I bet the music isn’t as good though. :) “And the roooad, leeeeeads to nowhere (where – where – where…)”
