The
sequel and remake are the slasher genre's best friend. Without
the numerous ones that have been made, the subgenre would not
have endured as long as it has. So then, there exists numerous
projects that never came to fruition. Welcome to the island
of lost dreams...
Alice Sweet Alice 2
Director Dante Tomaselli (Desecration, Horror) is cousin to Alfred Sole, director of the famous Brooke Shields yellow raincoat 70's slasher. He's been talking up a sequel for years that Sole would only want him to direct, but nothing has eventuated so far. Recently, Dante has been flapping his lips again, but now he wants to do a remake instead. Sigh.
Beyond Last House On The Left
While many concepts were
thought up such as one taking place at a summer camp, Vestron
seemed fairly confident this would be made, enough to announce
it in the end credits of their mid-80's Last House on the
Left reissue on VHS. Danny Steinman (Friday the 13th
Part 5) was set to direct this sequel set on a deserted
island inhabited by David Hess' murderous character Krug hiding
out with new group of outlaw sickos until a group of teens get
stranded. Weak story concepts were the reason given for this
movie never happening.
Chopping Mall 2 (& Remake)
Artisan had the rights and were wanting to make
it in 2003. According to director Jim Wynorski: "I spoke to
the guys who wanted to do a sequel, and they are no longer interested.
Corman still holds some of those rights."
The Funhouse Remake
Again with the Tomaselli, he's expressed interest at wanting to remake Tobe Hooper's 1981 film. As the guy conducted a stealth fan campaign to have himself hired to do Halloween 9, I don't take his sequel/remake ideas seriously. Having said that, he's successful at getting his original projects funded. If only he applied that magic towards Alice Sweet Alice 2 or this.
Haunted-ween 2
1991's panned slasher promised a sequel in the closing credits. Thanks to Nick for this info.
Hell Night 2
Canadian director Rolfe Kanefsky had penned a script for producer Irwin Yablan's to sequelize the 1981 Linda Blair starrer. Although it fell apart like a Chinese Bicyle, Kanefsky recycled the general outline and shaped it into 2004's fun horror/comedy Dead Scared (AKA The Hazing).
Hills Have Eyes 3, The
Jonathan Craven (Wes' son) was going to produce
a concept that had Pluto (Michael Berryman) exploited by the
army in a desert base which backfires. The script ended up shot
as an entirely original (and forgettable) film called Wes
Craven Presents: Mind Ripper.
House On Sorority Row Remake
Rolfe Kanefsky was attatched to remake the 1983 movie - my favorite. Ever. Slasher. His brief comments on the project indicated it would be in name only. Since I have a strong respect for the Mark Rosman's original storyline, I'll have to say I'm glad this didn't come to pass.
I Spit On Your Grave 2
Last we heard a few years back, Meir Zarchi was
looking for investors.
Maniac Cop: The Resurrection
Apparently William Lustig & Larry Cohen intended to make a fourth film in the action/slasher series but weren't able to finance it, which would be surprising due to the others being big video hits. The supposed storyline was a rookie police officer receiving Matt Cordell's old badge number, and gradually becoming possessed by Maniac Cop's spirit. An unrelated movie called The Force later used the same idea. Also, Lustig & Cohen once joked during a Fangoria interview about a Maniac Cop Vs Uncle Sam (another Cohen/Lustig villian).
My Bloody Valentine 2
Charles Dunning, rights holder of any MBV sequel,
has a treatment and/or script which takes place in an amusement
park built where the original mine killing occured. Cut gore
footage was to inserted into the film. But nothing has happened
so far with this project, so keep hoping.
Orville in Orbit
Unkillable hero Orville Ketchum was promised
a return in the end credits of Hard to Die but according
to director Jim Wynorski, the title was just a joke.
Phenomena 2
Old news that were either false or no longer
valid was that Dario Argento was planning a sequel to Phenomena
which was to involve many underwater sequences.
Scalps 2: The Return of D.J.
This was announced in the end title card of Scalps
- considering Fred Olen Ray pumped out so many movies in the
80's, it's assumed it either fell by the wayside or was just
an in-joke.
Student Chainsaw Nurses
A coming soon mention appeared in the end credits of Hollywood Chainsaw Hookers (1988), but was a joke on director Fred Olen Ray's part.
Terror Train Remake
Fox was set to do this, but it never came to
fruition.
Town That Dreaded Sundown 2
Charles B. Pierce mentioned it in an 1997 issue
of Fangoria: Pierce plans a return to Texarkana, and to the
true-life tale that frightened hhim so much as a kid: Upcoming,
he says, is a sequel to The Town That Dreaded Sundown.
He prefers not to reveal the details of the new screenplay at
this point. "But what happened there," he promises slyly, "will
make another good picture."
Two Pieces
Original director Juan Piquer Simon announced
in 1991 that "there will be a continuation of Pieces
entitled Two Pieces. This one will be much wilder then
the first... so the critics can start sharpening their claws
now!"
When A Stranger Calls 3
During the Scream boom of the late 90's, Fred
Walton planned the third entry for Dimension Films with Carol
Kane and Charles Durning encoring.
