Gory Blu-Ray Extras For Scott Spiegel’s Intruder

Intruder (1989) is a can-full of contained awesomeness, and if you haven’t read Intruder Thoughts From A Real Retail Worker, I curse you to a supermarket shopping line behind several senior citizens. Trust me, it sucks. So Synapse’s Intruder Blu-Ray has been in the works for a little while, and it’s still unscheduled, but things appear to be coming together.

Word comes in from Fangoria on the (preliminary) special features:

• Audio Commentary with Writer/Director Scott Spiegel & Producer Lawrence Bender

• Making-of Documentary with Scott, Lawrence, KNB’s Robert Kurtzman, Greg Nicotero & Howard Berger, actors Elizabeth Cox, Burr Steers, Craig Stark, Ted Raimi and others.

• Trailers

• Audition Footage

• Outtakes from the original Night Crew short film

• Deleted/Extended gore scenes from the workprint version

Plus the ever-warming “more”. The extra bloodshed’s going to be a prime selling point, I’m sure – I mean, the uncut version, as is, has some of the most stomach-churning sequences put onto a slasher film. For me, the peek at the short proto version Night Crew will be of most interest for historical reasons – essentially to Intruder what Within The Woods was to Evil Dead.

Fango’s report also features final specs on Maniac Cop BD and preliminary extras for Thou Shalt Not Kill…Except, both of which we covered on previous developments here.

  1. this is an extremely under rated slasher and is one of my faves.
It was released here in New Zealand uncut, and features some harrowing gore scenes – the meat saw, an eye poke, head crushing, knifings, etc …. recommended, but only in the uncut form – in a way is was like SCREAM many years before SCREAM became fashionable – the young cast, the red herrings, some humor …. give it a watch if you haven’t already.

  2. huh for some reason it didnt show my comments. but i love this film its one of my favorite all time slashers and i cant wait to get my hands on the Blu Ray

  3. Too bad my Blu-Ray player crapped out. About time I get a new one, this sounds like a great release! Can’t wait to see the workprint stuff and the “Night Crew” short!

  4. I have the shotty transfer/featureless DVD, but I would definitely shell out more for a blu-ray and those features.

  5. whhat is the release date for this can’t wait!!!

  6. Is Night Crew included? The listing states only that outtakes from the short are.

  7. That’s correct, mere scenes. Better than nothing… I’m guessing it was never finished.

  8. This film has a lot going for it: a unique, isolated setting (grocery store at night), some recognizable cult stars in cameo appearances, etc. But ultimately Intruder is all about the insanely bloody effects. This is a gore masterpiece that will really make the viewer cringe, and the spectacular splatter set-pieces ensure that the movie lingers in one’s mind.

  9. A NIGHT CREW short! i gota order this now! Thanks Kylza!

“I curse you to a supermarket shopping line behind several senior citizens. Trust me, it sucks” Nice! XD

  10. What can be said, this is all great news. I love that Synapse isn’t skimping on bonus material or transfer. I hope this same tactic worked out for them w/ Dorm That Drew Blood and it sold well.

I am bummed not to see Renee Estevez’s name here. I’d be interested to see what she looks like now and her thoughts on this flick (& maybe Sleepaway 2). I bet she is fairing better than her brother Charlie.

  11. This is my most- anticipated release in years…a plucky final girl, doing what final girls do best(discovering the creatively-posed carcasses of her butchered friends, maiming the killer, and of course, screaming),a classic locale, and of course, gallons of gushing karo make this one of my top five horror flix. Can’t wait to see Synapse’s cover art…wish they’d go with the idea I submitted.

  12. I remember seeing the making of or at least alot of it years ago, have the uncut DVD release got for £1 on ebay with the gamble.. all it said was “intruder DVD” some of the greatest death ever, the Sam raimi getting ahem ” butchered”
