Video Nasties – Learn more about the uproar which not just Nightmare but other “unmasked” slashers were unfairly roped into!

*Nightmare is the official title, but it was released in the UK and elsewhere as Nightmare (or Nightmates – see trailer below) in A Damaged Brain and that alternate title has become more widely accepted especially since the director himself sometimes refers to it under that moniker, and it’s one which describes the mentally-ill scenario more specifically than the generic USA title.

  1. Can’t wait to finally get my hands on this special edition. If everybody who complained about the delays puts their money where their mouths are and buy this title, it will undoubtedly be Code Red’s best-selling DVD and a signature release for the independent company.

  2. Looking forward to this. I haven’t seen it since the 80′s (VHS natch). My copy is on its way!!!

  3. I almost cancelled my Amazon order because there was another for sale on there for less, and with no tax, but I just couldn’t do it, because I will have the DVD by Friday at the latest with my current order and I just couldn’t wait 2 more weeks lol! Looks like this movie is going to (hopefully) sell lots.

  4. i got mine from Diabolik Dvd and watched the new transfer on disc 2 and it looked awesome.

  5. No subs on the Scavolini interview apparently… real let down considering CR have had the interview for at least a year – any bi-lingual Italian-American Uni student in need of rent money could’ve transcribed it surely?

Waiting for confirmation of whether it’s a true widescreen print and whether the full dialogue scenes – including the ‘will you be my dad?’ than follows on from the ‘coco-pinnochio’ beach conversation – are in.

  6. They had a transcriber who kept CR waiting for months on end with minor starts and stops, continually stating it would get done and offering just enough hope for CR to continue trusting. This person actually worked for another DVD company in another country and looks like it was an intentional act of sabotage to keep the release off the market for as long as possible.

  7. I am SO glad that this is finally coming out!! One of my favorite slashers of all time!! Now if we get Night Warning, I can die a happy man!!

  8. Thanks for the insight JK – sounds like a rum deal… Still, the sort of thing I’d only watch once methinks – like the interviews on ‘Jungle Holocaust’. I am actually more interested in the Baird Stafford input.

UPDATE – a contact has confirmed that the full height neck spurting appears on the wide prints SO they appear genuine not fake matted. JUST need to confirm if these ‘uncut’ prints are actually the dialogue trim versions intended for VHS rental tapes [which are widely considered uncut becuase they have all the gore in] or the proper, full dialogue ones.

  9. Got this yesterday at Fry’s for $14.99. To me, this was worth the wait. Thanks Code Red

  10. Unlike most dvd labels, I was actually in the telecine room all day telling the colorist to adjust the matt line so we can see the neck and also Tia Alexander’s peep booth scene. (disc 2 version) (:

  11. Indeed it’s too bad about the non-subtitled interview.. but luckily there is more than enough stuff that makes up for it !
And the best of all are the transfers themselves.. I never expected that this movie could possibly look this good ! Most
previous video and (non-legit) dvd editions either looked way too
dark or had really low contrast and lousy black levels.
Many thanks to Code Red for this one !

By the way.. i purchased my copy along with their release of Brute Corps, which also was a superb release.. if i may say so !

  12. I put the non-subtitled interview because I was afraid some overseas label (more like UK label) was going to steal it. I told everyone the dvd was unfinished, but many wanted it out now. Bad luck on coming out a month after NIGHTMARES which sold very well. people got the film mixed up.
