Covers For Code Red’s Night of The Demon DVD & More
Code Red have released covers for three titles we previously exclusively broke news on: Mardi Gras Massacre, Haunted, and Night of The Demon. As well, they have four older releases going out as double packs – Scream/Barn of The Naked Dead and Love Me Deadly/Curious Case of The Campus Corpse. Barn, it should be noted, is not the same one issued by Legend House in 2008.
Like Scorpion Releasing’s recent announced titles, Code Red have hired a wrestling femme to host these titles and more. Here’s what they had to say on their official blog, which features snaps from the photo shoot. There certainly seems to be a horror hostess renaissance.
CODE RED is proud to announce that a TV superstar will be the hostess for our new exclusive horror line! Former WWE superstar, 2009 Diva of the Year, Celebrity Apprentice contestant, Singing sensation, and April 2008 Playboy cover girl MARIA KANELLIS is back for more! Maria will host Code Red’s MARIA’S B MOVIE MAYHEM, and the first round of her horror/exploitation DVD releases will street in September! Maria will bring you the gory horror cult classic MARDI GRAS MASSACRE, the Native American horror flick HAUNTED with Aldo Ray, and Double-bills of SCREAM / BARN OF THE NAKED DEAD and LOVE ME DEADLY / CURIOUS CASE OF THE CAMPUS CORPSE. Then, on 9 more releases, Maria will host many other exploitation films including NIGHT OF THE DEMON, VAMPIRE AT MIDNIGHT, CAGED MEN, VOODOO DOLLS/MADONNA: CASE OF BLOOD AMBITION, RIOT ON 42ND STREET/BAD GIRLS DORMITORY, TEENAGE HITCHHIKERS/TEENAGE TRAMP, and more! All will feature Maria introducing the film, and appearing again after the film is over. The films will all be uninterrupted and uncut. Some of the DVDs will feature extras, as well.
Maria is a great gal and she had a lot of fun hosting this upcoming DVD series. Many wrestling fans are also horror fans so hopefully this can turn many wrestling fans onto CODE RED product. Having one of the most popular former WWE divas hosting our films is truly an honor.

Still no word on NIGHTMARE MAKER?
You’re a broken record, Jimmy. If there was word, you’d have heard it by now.
Very Cool…. That is why I love Code Red!!!!
I’m definitely picking of Night of the Demon and Mardi Gras Massacre. If I have enough money, Haunted will be mine too.
And researching the Voodoo Dolls/Madonna films, they look like possible fun cruddy 1990 horror-thrillers. Maybe I’ll shill for them too.
Night of the Demon, what could be more heart warming than seeing someone beaten to death with their own entrails?
There’s some good stuff here. Code Red are really stepping up.
“Many wrestling fans are also horror fans”…
Many Horror fans also claim to be Goths BUT that doesn’t mean we have to have DVDs ‘presented by’ Rob Zombie, does it..?! Wait, doh! We already did that : P
You might just as well say “Many Horror fans are also Farmers” and have each film presented by some redneck in a John Deere hat sitting on a mound of turnips.
This is just ‘cheap’, not to mention utterly plagiaristic towards Scorpion, who should be consulting their lawyer… Code Red couldn’t hit a cow’s arse with a banjo much less develop an original, timely and successful marketing strategy. I can only hope that Bill is going to sooo slavishly plaigiarise Scorpion that we’ll have th option to turn this bimbo off and turn the inlay over too for halfway normal looking/playing Horror DVDs.
Thank ‘[whatever profanity you care to insert here]‘ that CR didn’t go THIS route for Scavolini’s NIGHTMARE… I think there’d have been a price on Bill’s head : )
Yes Mardis Gras Massacre!!! I didn’t think the rights holders could be traced for this one, so I’m truely surprised that this has ever made it out. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. Thanks Code Red, the most awesoem label around!
I think getting lady wrestlers to present some of these films is a good thing. It certainly fits with Night of The Demon. I can’t say I’m a wrestling fan, because trad British wrestlers are big men in tights. But I do like a cheap gimmick and if it make these films easier to market, great.
@ The Eye
You do realize that Bill Olsen (president of Code Red) and Walter Olsen (president of Scorpion) are brothers don’t you? At one time, they both ran Code Red before Walter decided to branch off and form Scorpion.
This horror host was probably a joint idea. So cool it with the Code Red bashing tirade…the shtick is getting old.
Oh don’t bother, Horace – logic and facts are no weapon against horror fan’s apparently constitutional right to bash Code Red! Haha.
How come whenever a news article is posted regarding a Code Red release, the same few on here do nothing but bitch about titles that haven’t been released and other petty crap? Just be thankful independent companies like these are doing their best to cater to horror fans, as most of the big studios couldn’t care less about you. Don’t be so negative and instead try and be supportive.
Hah, lame… If CR want ex-models on their DVDs why not release GATOR BAIT?! – which IS a superb film.
Yeah the code red bitching is just silly. Code red, shriek show, arrow and various other labels are fans. They put this stuff out because they like it and care about it. It’s about an aesthetic of lost low budget horror. What do you want? Do you want Warner’s and MGM to sit on copyrights fore years!
You’re not forced to buy it.
